Parliament Question: Grants Payable to Tamil Nadu by the Union Government

Shri Matheswaran V S: Will the Minister of FINANCE: be pleased to state: (a) the quantum and details of all kinds of grants payable to Tamil Nadu by the Union Government during the last five years till date, year-wise, sector-wise and category-wise; (b) the quantum and details of arrears of Grants and amounts outstanding for any reasons whatsoever under various categories of grants payable to Tamil Nadu as on date, sector-wise and category-wise; and (c) the reasons for the delay in releasing such amounts? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR FINANCE (SHRI PANKAJ CHAUDHARY) Parts (a) to (c): The Department of Expenditure releases Central Finance Commission- recommended grants to States including the State Government of Tamil Nadu, based on receipt of recommendations from the nodal Ministry/Department. Further, the release of grants is subject to fulfilment of conditions stipulated in the extant guidelines of the respective grant categories. From 01st April, 2026, the recommendations of the 16th Finance Commission are being implemented for the award period 2026-27 to 2030-31. In 2026-27, no recommendation from the Nodal Ministries is pending for release of 16th Finance Commission’s grants-in-aid to the State of Tamil Nadu. ***
