Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to
state:
(a) whether the Government is implementing the Green India Mission to increase forest
cover and improve biodiversity in the country, especially in Madhya Pradesh, if so,
the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has undertaken afforestation activities in Katni and Panna
districts and Khajuraho town in Khajuraho Lok Sabha constituency;
(c) if so, the details thereof and the measures taken to achieve the mission's objectives;
and
(d) if not, the reasons therefor and the steps being taken to address the issue

(a) National Mission for a Green India (GIM) is one of the eight Missions outlined
under the National Action Plan on Climate Change. It aims at protecting,
restoring, and enhancing India’s forest cover and responding to Climate Change
by undertaking plantation activities in the forest and non-forest areas in the
selected landscapes. In Madhya Pradesh, the implementation of GIM activities
commenced in 2018-19. Till date, ₹ 123.26 Crore have been released to the State
of Madhya Pradesh for taking up afforestation/eco-restoration activities in 32831
ha under different sub-missions of the Green India Mission.
(b) to (d) As per the information provided by the State of Madhya Pradesh afforestation
activities have been undertaken in the districts of Katni and Panna through
various schemes and implementing agencies. Under the Working Plan
Implementation Scheme, afforestation is being carried out on forest land in Katni,
North Panna, and South Panna Forest Divisions.
In the Katni Forest Division, 14,946 saplings have been planted under the City
Forest Scheme. The Madhya Pradesh State Forest Development Corporation Ltd.,
through its Kundam Project Division, has undertaken plantation activities in
Katni district, covering a total of 254 compartments over a net area of 11,910
hectares from the year 1978 to 2021.Additionally, afforestation works are also being undertaken with CAMPA
funding, specifically under the Compensatory Afforestation and Net Present Value
(NPV) components, in Katni, North Panna, and South Panna Forest Divisions. In
the South Panna Forest Division of Panna district, afforestation and treatment of
forest land over an area of 2,814.54 hectares have been carried out under various
sub-missions of the Green India Mission during the period 2018-19 to 2024-25.
