## Summary of Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 1263 Regarding GST Collection in June 2025
This document summarizes the response provided by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 1263, answered on July 28, 2025, concerning Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in June 2025.
The question addressed concerns about the performance of GST collection in June 2025, its potential implications for economic activity, and possible measures to reduce GST rates on essential goods.
The Minister's response indicated that concerns about poor GST collection in June 2025 are unfounded. The quarterly net GST collections for Q1 of FY 2025-26 (April-June 2025) reached ₹542,533 crore, reflecting a 10.7% growth over Q1 of FY 2024-25 (₹490,174 crore) and a 12.9% growth over Q1 of FY 2023-24 (₹445,905 crore). The Ministry stated that quarterly comparisons are more reliable indicators of underlying trends than monthly figures due to the smoothing out of short-term volatility.
Regarding the rationalization of GST rates, the Minister confirmed that the GST Council had not submitted any specific report on reducing the number of GST rate slabs. However, the GST Council, in its 45th meeting on September 17, 2021, constituted a Group of Ministers (GoM) to review the current tax slab rates and recommend changes to garner required resources and rationalize the rate structure, including potential merger of tax rate slabs, for a simpler GST system. Any decision on GST rates on goods, including those used by the common people, will be based on the recommendations of the GST Council, a constitutional body comprising members from the Union Government and the State/UT Governments.

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN MINISTRY OF FINANCE
(SHRI PANKAJ CHAUDHARY)
(a) & (b): Quarterly Net GST Collections for Q1 over the past three financial years are given below.

It may be noted that Net Q1 collections for FY 2025–26 have recorded a growth of 10.7% over Q1
