HRIDAY SCHEME IN TAMIL NADU
4837. SHRI MALAIYARASAN D:
Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the Heritage City Development and Augmentation
Yojana (HRIDAY) scheme;
(b) the details of number of cities in Tamil Nadu included under the
HRIDAY scheme, along with the total allocation of funds thereon;
(c) the details of specific heritage sites and cities in Tamil Nadu have
benefited from the HRIDAY scheme, development works carried out
under this initiative;
(d) the details of steps taken by the Government to ensure the
sustainable development of heritage cities and preservation of
historical sites under the HRIDAY scheme in Tamil Nadu; and
(e) the manner in which the Government plans to monitor and assess
the impact of the HRIDAY scheme in promoting tourism and
improving infrastructure in heritage cities in Tamil Nadu?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT)
(a) to (e): The Ministry of Tourism is not operating the Heritage City
Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) scheme. National
Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) was
launched on 21 January, 2015. The mission has ended on 31 March, 2019
and its Heritage component has been merged in the scheme "National
Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation
Drive (PRASHAD)" under Ministry of Tourism.The Ministry of Tourism under the “Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and
Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive” (PRASHAD) Scheme provides
financial assistance to the State Governments (SGs) and UT
Administrations (UTs) for development of tourism related infrastructure
at identified religious and heritage sites across the country, including the
State of Tamil Nadu. Under the PRASHAD Scheme the Ministry seeks to
develop tourism infrastructure in a holistic and sustainable manner with
the objective of generating employment, boosting tourism, conserving
local culture, and strengthening the local economy across the country.
The details of the projects sanctioned under the PRASHAD Scheme in the
State of Tamil Nadu are annexed.
