On December 3, 2025, Dr. Thirumaavalan Tholkaapiyan inquired about the Government of India's plans for a Human Space Flight Mission to the Moon. The Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions and in the Prime Minister's Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh, responded that India has envisioned a long-term roadmap including a crewed mission to the moon, as part of continued efforts for sustained human spaceflight missions. The first crewed lunar mission is tentatively planned for 2040, as part of India's Space Vision 2047. To achieve this goal, the government has recently approved major projects including Chandrayaan-4 Lunar Sample Return Mission, Chandrayaan-5, ISRO-JAXA LuPex mission, Gaganyaan follow-on missions including Bharatiya Antariksh Station module-1, Next Generation Launch Vehicle, and Third Launch Pad.
