be pleased to state:
(a) the details of accident-causing black spots identified on National
Highways (NHs) in the country, State/UT-wise including the NHs
passing through Warangal in Telangana and Palnadu in Andhra
Pradesh indicating the location, NH number and the present status
of each black spot thereof;
(b) the corrective measures sanctioned and undertaken including
the project-wise details of the number of flyovers, underpasses,
interchanges or other road safety works sanctioned so far for the
rectification of the said black spots including the number of works
for which tenders have been issued, the number of works currently
under construction and the number of works already completed for
the rectification of such black spots in the said areas;
(c) the estimated cost, sanctioned amount, executing agency,
physical and financial progress achieved and the stipulated timeline
for completion of construction work for each sanctioned
project/remaining works in the country, State-wise including said
areas and the reduction in accident rates after completion of
rectification works; and(d) whether the Government proposes to sanction additional
projects for the time-bound elimination of the remaining black spots
and if so, the details thereof?

(a) Certain continuous stretches on National Highways (NHs) have
been identified qualifying the criteria of black spots i.e. locations
with occurrence of certain number of accidents involving fatalities
and grievous injuries. These stretches have been identified on real-
time basis through AI based tools developed by Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT), Kanpur. Based on the available accident data from
Electronic Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR) for the period 2023–
2025, 6,358 Black spot corridors have been identified. The State-
wise details are placed at Annexure-I. Further, the list of the black
corridors passing through Warangal in Telangana and Palnadu in
Andhra Pradesh are placed at Annexure-II.
(b) to (d) Rectification of black spots is a continuous process. Short-
term measures for immediate rectification of black corridors include
road markings, signages, crash barriers, road studs, delineators,
closure of unauthorized median openings, traffic calming measures,
highway lighting etc. Long-term measures for rectification of black
corridors like improvement of road geometrics, junction
improvements, spot widening of carriageway, construction of
underpasses/overpasses, etc. are also taken as permanent
rectification measures as per site requirement. Long term
rectification works involve pre-construction activities such as land
acquisition, forest clearance & utility shifting which takes
significant time.No separate allocation of funds is made for rectification works on
road accident black spots which are executed either as part of on-
going NH development works or on standalone basis. However,
State/UT- wise details of funds allocated and expenditure incurred
towards development and maintenance of NHs during each of the
last five years and the current year are placed at Annexure-III.ANNEXURE-I
