Parliament Question: Impact of PM Gati Shakti on logistics efficiency in Odisha

IMPACT OF PM GATI SHAKTI ON LOGISTICS EFFICIENCY IN ODISHA 3876. SHRI SUJEET KUMAR: Will the Minister of Commerce and Industry be pleased to state: (a) whether any assessment has been made on the reduction in logistics cost or time under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, particularly in eastern States, including Odisha; (b) the major projects in Odisha integrated through the PM Gati Shakti platform, such as port connectivity, industrial corridors or logistics parks and their current implementation status; and (c) the future plans for improving freight movement and last-mile connectivity in the State, along with indicative completion timelines? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MIN ISTRY OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY (SHRI JITIN PRASADA) (a): A recent assessment of the logistics cost in India has been carried out by the Department, in association with National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). As per the assessment, the logistics cost in India is about 8% of the GDP, which is comparable to the logistics costs in developed economies. The logistics cost assessment takes into account all components of the logistics in the country, including Odisha and other eastern States. Further, India’s position in the latest World Bank’s global Logistics Performance Index (LPI) ranking has improved to 38th rank – an advancement of 6 positions. (b) & (c): Major projects such as rail and road transport projects, industrial corridors, logistics terminals and parks, etc. in the country have been mapped on to the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP). Further, 26 projects falling in the State of Odisha have been appraised/Evaluated through the Network Planning Group (NPG) mechanism under the PM GatiShakti initiative. These projects, which are at various stages of implementation, include port connectivity, rail and road transport projects. Details of these 26 projects falling in the States of Odisha are given at Annexure-I.
