Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) the status of implementation of PM-SHRI Scheme in Karnataka especially for
Chikkaballapur;
(b) the district-wise details of elementary, primary, secondary and senior secondary schools
currently under PM-SHRI Scheme in Karnataka especially for Chikkaballapur district;
(c) the details of support provided by the Government to the schools of Karnataka under the
above scheme;
(d) whether skill development programmes are being integrated into school education in the
country, if so, the details of steps taken to teach modern technologies at school level and to
improve skills such as coding amongst school children;
(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and
(f) the details of steps taken to equip students for facing future challenges in employment?

(a) & (b): Under the PM SHRI scheme, a total of 585 PM SHRI schools have been selected
from the state of Karnataka out of which 16 PM SHRI schools have been selected from the
Chikkaballapur district.
The district-wise details of elementary, primary, secondary and senior secondary
schools under PM-SHRI Scheme in Karnataka especially for Chikkaballapur district are
attached as Annexure I.
(c): PM SHRI scheme has a provision to equip PM SHRI schools with science labs, ICT-
enabled smart classrooms, library, furniture and playground. Further, digital learning tools like
smart boards support modern, technology-driven education. Efforts like the introduction of
LED lighting, composting facilities, and medicinal gardens create eco-friendly “green
schools”.
States/UTs submit proposal by identifying infrastructural gaps such as ICT Labs,
science labs, lab equipment, digital libraries, Classroom Digital Boards, Smart Classrooms,LED lighting, composting facilities etc. The component wise proposal submitted by the
States/UTs are appraised and sanctioned by the Project Approval Board (PAB) in consultation
with the States/UTs according to financial and programmatic norms and provision available.
(d) to (f): Vocational training and skill development are key components of the PM SHRI
scheme, aims at equipping students with practical skills relevant to the demands of India’s
evolving job market. As part of this, vocational subjects are being introduced across secondary
and senior secondary schools, allowing students to engage with knowledge and competencies
suited for real-world applications.
The focus remains on providing technical and vocation-specific knowledge to students,
including skills in handicrafts, mechanical operations, arts, music, languages, and advanced
fields such as artificial intelligence and robotics. PM SHRI schools are also being supported in
aligning vocational training with the local job market through skills gap analysis and mapping
of opportunities.
PM SHRI Schools have also begun facilitating opportunities for students to take up
internships and short-term roles with local industries, retailers, artisans, and informal
enterprises during vacations. These internships offer valuable exposure to the world of work
and help bridge the gap between education and industry demands.
