Import of wildlife
52. SHRI SAMIRUL ISLAM:
Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state:
(a) the number of wildlife imported into India during the last five years, species-wise and
country-wise;
(b) the names and details of facilities where these animals are housed currently; and
(c) the survival rates of such imported wildlife, species-wise?

(a) to (c) Import of wild animals is regulated in accordance to provisions of Wild Life (Protection)
Act, 1972 and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and
flora (CITES). As per the information available in the Ministry, the species-wise and country-wise
details of animals imported into India during last five years and the facilities where these animals
are housed, is at Annexure.
The survival rates of species, including imported animals, depends on various factors including its
biology, ecology, housing and upkeep facilities, health care, etc. Such data are not collated at the
level of the Ministry.
