SHRI HARIS BEERAN Will the Minister of COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY be pleased to state: (a) the total value of imports and exports from the European Union (EU) from 2021-22 till date, year-wise; (b) the growth rate of imports and exports; (c) the details of the top ten commodities exported from India to EU, since Financial Year 2021- 22, year wise; (d) the key non-tariff barriers and regulatory measures faced by Indian exporters in the European Union (EU), commodity-wise; and (e) the timeline by which the EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is likely to be signed, ratified and brought into force? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (SHRI JITIN PRASADA) (a) and (b): The total value and growth rate of imports and exports from the European Union (EU) from 2021-22 till date are given below: Values in USD Bn. (d): The key non-tariff measures faced by lndian exporters relate to the EU's REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) requirements applicable to all commodities containing chemical substances; the CE Marking requirement (stands for European Conformity) and the Directive on Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipments; and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPB) for physical products. 1The non-tariff barriers faced by Indian exporters include delay in listing new Indian establishments in the EU’s TRACES NT (Trade Control and Expert System New Technology) system in Fish and Fishery products; pending approval of Residue Monitoring Plan (RMP) for Milk and Milk products, Poultry meat and Poultry Meat products; higher sampling checks for Indian aquaculture shrimp consignments; and stringent Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for tea products, Spices & Spice products. (e): India and the European Union (EU) announced the conclusion of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on 27th January 2026 at the 16th India–EU Summit, held in New Delhi. The Agreement will come into force after signing and ratification by both the Parties.
