Parliament Question: Inland Water Transport in Maharashtra

SHRI ARVIND GANPAT SAWANT: Will the Minister of PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS be pleased to state:- प(cid:419)न, पोत प(cid:464)रवहन और जलमाग (cid:91) म(cid:287)ं ी (a) whether the Government proposes any new project for the development of inland water transport in Maharashtra, if so, the details thereof, district-wise; (b) whether the Government proposes to develop multi-modal logistics and dry ports to connect interior areas of Maharashtra with major ports; and (c) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL) (a) The details of proposed projects for development of inland water transport (IWT) in Maharashtra taken up by Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MOPSW) are as under: (i) Development of National Waterway (NW)-28 (Dabhol Creek–Vashishti River) (ii) Development of NW-89 (Savitri River & Bankot Creek) (iii) Setting up of Vessel Tracking Stations at three locations namely, along NW- 10 (Amba River) in Raigad District; NW-83 (Rajpuri Creek) in Raigad district and NW- 91 (Shastri River - Jaigad Creek) in Ratnagiri district for monitoring of vessel movements.
