Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing to launch Tamil Naduโs first Internet of Things (IoT)-integrated highway on the busy Tambaram-Tindivanam stretch of NH-32 and if so, the details thereof along with its salient features;
(b) the time frame by when the Tambaram-Tindivanam Digital Highway project will be completed;
(c) whether Government has allocated funds for the implementation of IoT enabled Digital Highways in the country; and
(d) whether Government has inked any MoU with IT companies for the smooth execution of the Digital Highway projects in the country, if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI
(a) to (c) The adoption of modern technology to operate and maintain National Highways(NHs), in safe and traffic worthy condition, is a continuous process. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken up the work of additional Illumination and major maintenance of existing Illumination in the TambaramโTindivanam section of NH-32 at a cost of Rs. 8.34 Crore.
The project includes installation of IoT (Internet of Things) -enabled lighting systems for remote monitoring and control through Windows and Android platforms to ensure efficient management of highway illumination.
The work is scheduled for completion by April 2026.
(d) NHAI has signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Digital India Corporation, a not-for-profit Section-8 company under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
