Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

This document summarizes the Indian government's response to a parliamentary question regarding the proposed Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (KBIC) project, specifically concerning the establishment of a Global City in Kochi as Node 2. The government clarifies that instead of a Global City in Kochi, an Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) at Palakkad, Kerala, has been approved in August 2024 as an extension of the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP). A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Kerala Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited, has been established to implement this Palakkad project. The response also provides a list of 20 projects approved under the NICDP, categorized as: 4 completed projects (Dholera Special Investment Region, Shendra Bidkin Industrial Area, Integrated Industrial Township Vikram Udyogpuri, and Integrated Industrial Township Greater Noida), 4 projects under implementation (Krishnapatnam Industrial Area, Tumakuru Industrial Area, Multi Modal Logistic Hub (MMLH) and Multi Modal Transport Hub (MMTH) Greater Noida, and Integrated Multi Modal Logistics Hub Nangal Chaudhary), and 12 newly approved projects (IMC Khurpia, IMC Rajpura, Dighi Port Industrial Area, IMC Palakkad, Jodhpur Pali Marwar Industrial Area, IMC Hisar, IMC Agra, IMC Prayagraj, IMC Gaya, Orvakal Industrial Area, Kopparthy Industrial Area, and Zaheerabad Industrial Area). The document does not directly address the Kerala government's sanctioned funds for land acquisition in Ayyampuzha for the proposed Global City in Kochi. The Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Shri Jitin Prasada, provided the response.
