GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 488 TO BE ANSWERED ON 22.07.2026 LACK OF BASIC AMENITIES AT RAILWAY STATION OF SINDHUDURG DISTRICT †488. SHRI NARAYAN TATU RANE: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) whether any scheme has been proposed for beautification of platforms and construction of sheds, toilets, provision of drinking water, waiting hall and development of other basic amenities at railway stations of Sindhudurg district and if so, the details thereof; (b) whether there is any proposal for starting ticket booking service at Oros and Vaibhavbadi railway stations and if so, the details thereof; (c) whether the Government is providing additional stoppages for important express trains at prominent railway stations of Sindhudurg district and if so, the details thereof; and (d) the details of funds sanctioned for completion of the said works? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (d): Development / re-development / upgradation / modernisation of stations on Indian Railways is a continuous and ongoing process and works in this regard are undertaken as per requirement, subject to inter-se priority and availability of funds. Development / re-development / upgradation / modernization of stations is carried out based on category of stations / condition / traffic handled, etc. Enhancement of passenger amenities at stations is a continuous process. Passenger amenities have been consistently enhanced at different stations situated in Sindhudurg district. Vaibhavwadi Road, Kankavali, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road are main stations in Sindhudurg district. During the last five years and current year, i.e., from 2021-22 to 2026-27 (till 30.06.2026), Page 1 of 6 §following passenger amenity works at a cost of about Rs. 46.68 Crore at these stations have been executed/taken up:- (i) Vaibhavwadi Road: The works of 10 Modular Shelters, 1 High Level Platform, 4 water pedestals, Foot Over Bridge, renovation of toilet, etc. have been completed/commissioned. (ii) Kankavali: The works of AC Lounge facility, extension of Platform No. 1 and 2, disabled-friendly toilet and Bio-toilet, renovation of existing toilets, replacement of water coolers, 150 meters platform shelter, Digital Coach Indication Board, TV based information system, etc. have been completed/commissioned. The works of installation of lift and construction of FOB Roof Shelter, Platform Shelter on Platform No.2 and provision of Digital Coach Indication Boards have been taken up. Upward escalator is already available and the work for provision of downward escalator has also been taken up. (iii) Sindhudurg: The works of 05 Modular Shelters, disabled-friendly toilets, 05 Water Pedestals, Renovation of existing toilets, TV based information system, etc. have been completed/commissioned. (iv) Kudal: The works of Food Court, 26 Modular Shelters, widening of Platform Nos. 1 & 2, Bio-toilet, renovation of existing toilets, stainless steel benches, TV based information system, etc. have been completed/commissioned. The works of installation of lift and construction of FOB Roof Shelter have been taken up. (v) Sawantwadi Road: The works of 8 Modular Shelters, High Level Platform, Foot Over Bridge, Digital Coach Indication Board, 01 Bio-toilet, One Station One Product Stall, disabled-friendly toilet, stainless steel benches, renovation of existing toilets, TV based information system, widening of Platform No.1, construction of new approach road to the building with drive-in facility along the new platform, etc. have been completed/commissioned. The works of construction of booking office, waiting hall and allied facilities on the eastern side as second entry to Sawantwadi Road Station at Platform No.3, provision of lift and Digital Coach Indication Board have been taken up. Passenger amenity works such as Modular Shelters, construction of High Level Platform, Divyang passenger friendly toilets, construction of water pedestals, water filteration plant, etc. have also been carried out at other Page 2 of 6stations of Sindhudurg district, namely, Kharepatan Road, Achirrne, Nandgaon Road, Zarap and Madure. UTS-cum-PRS booking facility is provided at stations from time to time as per requirement and demand from the travelling passengers. At present, UTS-cum-PRS ticket booking facility is available at Sindhudurg Railway Station (OROS). Further, UTS ticketing facility is also available at Vaibhavwadi Road Railway Station. In addition, the passengers can also access ‘RailOne App’ for this purpose. The App can be downloaded from Android Play Store and Apple App Store. This App enables passengers to book reserved as well as unreserved tickets on mobile phone. This App combines all the public facing services of Indian Railways like reserved ticketing, unreserved ticketing, platform ticketing, train enquiry, PNR enquiry, ‘Rail Madad’, etc. into a single platform. This, in effect, brings the Passenger reservation system facility to passenger's palm. As the Railway network straddles across District boundaries, trains are operated and stoppages are provided as per network requirements, across such boundaries. However, to facilitate the passengers of various stations located in the Sindhudurg district, the following stoppages have been provided: i. 22655/22656 Ernakulam - Hazrat Nizamuddin Express at Sindhudurg station w.e.f. 05.11.2025. ii. 12977/12978 Ernakulam - Ajmer Marusagar Express at Sindhudurg station w.e.f. 02.11.2025. iii. 22475/22476 Hisar - Coimbatore Express at Kankavali station w.e.f. 05.11.2025. iv. 16335/16336 Gandhidham - Nagercoil Express at Kankavali station w.e.f. 07.11.2025. In addition, stoppage of 12133/12134 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (T) - Mangaluru Jn. Express, 12431/12432 Thiruvananthapuram Central - Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express and 12201/12202 Lokmanya Tilak (T) - Thiruvananthapuram North Garib Rath Express at Sawantwadi Road station (located in Sindhudurg district) have also been approved.
