LAUNCHING OF SMART CITIES MISSION 2.0
NO. 1909. SHRI DURAI VAIKO:
Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to
state:
(a) whether the Government is considering the launch of a Smart Cities
Mission (SCM) 2.0 building upon the existing projects under the
current Smart Cities framework;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the proposed features, focus
areas and funding mechanism of the new phase of the mission;
(c) whether Tiruchirappalli would be considered for further
upgradation and expansion of infrastructure and digital public
services under the new package and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether any review or assessment report has been conducted
regarding the status and performance of Smart Cities projects
completed or pending in Tiruchirappalli and if so, the details
thereof; and
(e) whether the Government would ensure that unfinished projects and
newly identified gaps in urban mobility, waste management, flood
mitigation and livability are prioritized under the proposed SCM 2.0
framework and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e) No. With the closure of Smart Cities Mission (SCM) on March
31, 2025, there is no further budgetary provision under SCM. Hence,
no new city will be taken up under SCM.

100 cities have been selected under Smart Cities Mission (SCM),
including 11 cities in the State of Tamil Nadu, viz. Chennai,
Coimbatore, Erode, Madurai, Salem, Thanjavur, Thoothukudi,
Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur and Vellore.
As on 11.07.2025, in the 11 cities selected under SCM in the state of
Tamil Nadu, including Tiruchirappalli, have taken up a total of 729
projects amounting to ₹17,951 Cr. Out of this, 726 projects (99% of
total projects) amounting to ₹17,923 Cr have been completed and
the remaining 03 projects amounting to ₹28 Cr are ongoing.
In Tiruchirappalli smart city, a total of 83 projects amounting to
₹1547.68 Cr have been undertaken in SCM and all the projects have
been completed, as per the information provided by the State.
