MALNOURISHED GIRLS AND PREGNANT WOMEN
2077. SHRI ARUN KUMAR SAGAR:
Will the Minister of Women and Child Development be pleased to state:
(a) whether Government is providing free foodgrains to malnourished girls and pregnant
women in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the quantity of foodgrains allocated to the States for this purpose, State-wise; and
(d) the number of malnourished girls/ pregnant women who have benefitted from this scheme
during the last three years till date, State-wise?

(SHRIMATI SAVITRI THAKUR)
(a) and (b): Under Saksham Anganwadi and Mission Poshan 2.0, Supplementary Nutrition is
provided to Children (6 months to 6 years), Pregnant Women, Lactating Mothers and Adolescent
Girls (of 14-18 years in Aspirational Districts and North-Eastern region) to beat the
intergenerational cycle of malnutrition by adopting a life cycle approach. Supplementary nutrition
is provided in the form of Hot Cooked Meals (HCM) and Take Home Ration (THR).
Foodgrains i.e. wheat, fortified rice and millets, are allocated at subsidised rates to State
Governments and Union Territory (UT) Administrations under Wheat Based Nutrition Programme
(WBNP) and Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG) on quarterly basis through the Department of
Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) for preparation of HCM and THR.(c): A statement indicating the quantity of foodgrains allocated to States and UTs under WBNP
and SAG till the 3rd quarter of the financial year 2025-26 is given at Annexure - I.
(d): A statement indicating the number of Aadhar verified adolescent girls and pregnant women
who have benefited from this scheme during the last three years and current financial year is given
at Annexure - II.
