GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF MINES LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION No.1724 ANSWERED ON 29.07.2026 MINERAL EXPLORATION BY GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA 1724. SHRI ROBERT BRUCE C: Will the Minister of MINES be pleased to state: (a) whether the Geological Survey of India has conducted mineral exploration in Tirunelveli district and if so, the details thereof along with the findings including the funds sanctioned or released and the physical progress achieved during each of the last three years and if not, the reasons therefor; and (b) the details of the steps proposed to be taken by the Union Government in this regard for Tirunelveli district and the time-frame fixed therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR COAL AND MINES (SHRI SATISH CHANDRA DUBEY) (a) and (b): The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has not conducted mineral exploration in Tirunelveli district during the last three years. GSI had carried out mineral exploration programmes for various commodities such as Mica, Graphite, Limestone, etc. in Tirunelveli district till field season 2005- 2006. These exploration projects did not yield significant outcome for any mineral commodity and hence, mineral exploration was not taken up further in this district by GSI. *****
