Parliament Question: Modernisation of Food Storage Infrastructure

SHRI AMARSING TISSO: Will the Minister of CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has sanctioned any modern warehouses, silos or food storage facilities in Kart)i Anglong and Dima Hasao districts of Assam during the last five years and if so, the details thereof; (b) the details of storage capacity created under various Central Government schemes in Assam, district- wise during the said period; (c) whether any proposals for establishment of scientific warehouses, silos and cold chain infrastructure in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts are under consideration of the Government; and (d) if so, the details and present status thereoP ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD & PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION (SHRIVIATI NIMUBEN JAYANTIBHAI BAMBHANIYA) (a): FCI has not created any new warehouse in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts of Assam during the last five years. (b): The details of the storage capacity that have been created under various Central Government Schemes in Assam by FCI during the last five years are as below: 1. SILO Changsari - 50,000 MT, District - Kamrup (w.e.f Oct 2021 ) 2. FSD Archipathar - 25,056 MT, District- Dhemaji (w,e.f June 2021 ) 3. FSD Kokrajhar - 15,000 MT, District - Kokrajhar (w.e.f Sept’ 2025) Total 16000 MT capacity has been created at 6 locations by Assam State under central sector scheme. Besides, Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) has created 2 warehouses in last 5 years in Assam: strict :apacity IDate / Year of 1(in MT) jcompletion ankachar no 13861 12.10.2025 Salmara Charial (c): As of now, there is no proposal under consideration with the Central Government for construction of godowns in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts in the State of Assam.
