NATIONAL CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE
3983. SHRI TANGELLA UDAY SRINIVAS:
Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of National Centres of Excellence (NCoEs) currently
established by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), including year of
establishment sports disciplines covered, and facilities
available at each NCoE;
(b) the details of the funds approved, sanctioned and utilised for
establishing or upgrading each NCoE since inception;
(c) whether the State Government of Andhra Pradesh has submitted
proposals for the establishment of NCoEs in Guntur and Kakinada;
(d) if so, the details and status thereof along with the reasons for
delay or non-approval; and
(e) whether the Government proposes to establish an NCoE in Andhra
Pradesh in the near future, considering the State’s growing
contribution to national-level sports and if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS
[DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA](a): The details of National Centres of Excellence (NCoEs) of SAI
established across the country along with year of establishment and
sports disciplines covered are provided at Annexure-I.
(b): After merger of SAI Promotional Schemes operating in the same
campus and stadia etc., existing Centres of Excellence were
upgraded to National Centres of Excellence. The expenditure
incurred on NCoEs since inception is as per annexure-II.
(c) & (d): Yes Sir. Proposals were received from the Hon’ble Chief
Minister of Andhra Pradesh (dated 30.10.2024 )and Sports Authority
of Andhra Pradesh (dated 17.09.2024) for establishment of National
Centres of Excellence (NCoE) at Guntur and Kakinada. SAI has
undertaken an exercise of restructuring its Sports Promotional
Schemes to ensure more focused and effective development of
athletes. Given the existing sports infrastructure and financial
considerations, the emphasis is currently on strengthening the
capabilities of the existing centres to drive excellence in sports.
(e): At present, no such proposal is under consideration.
