GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3603 TO BE ANSWERED ON 13.03.2026 NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR PROTECTION OF CHILD RIGHTS 3603. SHRI ANTO ANTONY Will the Minister of WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state: (a) Whether the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident in Madhya Pradesh where children were reportedly on scrap paper on Republic Day? If so, the details thereof; (b) Whether NCPCR has taken cognizance of the reported drinking water contamination incident in Indore affecting children? If so, the details and present status of enquiry thereon; (c) The number of similar incidents relating to mid-day meal irregularities/unsafe drinking water in schools reported during the last five years, State-wise; (d) The number of cases in which NCPCR has taken suo motu action, year-wise; (e) Whether NCPCR has completed the enquiry reports in the said cases? If so, the findings and recommendations thereof; and (f) The details of the action taken by the concerned State Governments based on the recommendations of NCPCR in such cases. ANSWER MINISTER OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT (SHRIMATI ANNPURNA DEVI) (a). The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has not taken suo motu cognizance of the reported incident in Madhya Pradesh . (b). The Commission has not taken cognizance on the said matter. (c). Details are given at Annexure-I (d). Details are given at Annexure-II (e). and (f). NCPCR after taking cognizance of the cases relating to mid-day meal irregularities/unsafe drinking water in schools, as per section 13(1)(J) of the CPCR Act, 2005 has referred the matter to the District Administration and State Government concerned for necessary action.
