Parliament Question: National Highway Projects in Karnataka

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1883 ANSWERED ON 30th JULY, 2026 NATIONAL HIGHWAY PROJECTS IN KARNATAKA 1883. SHRI E TUKARAM: Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS सड़क परिवहन औि िाजमार्ग मंत्री be pleased to state: (a) the total number of National Highway projects sanctioned in Karnataka from 2014 till date along with their total sanctioned length (in kms); (b) the total length (in kms) of National Highways completed and opened to traffic in Karnataka during the said period and the total length still under construction or yet to be completed; (c) the reasons for the delay in completion of the pending National Highway projects in Karnataka; and (d) the timeline including expected date for completion of the remaining National Highway projects in Karnataka, project-wise? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI) (a) Since 2014, a total of 372 National Highway projects having an aggregate length of 6077 km have been sanctioned in the State of Karnataka. (b) A total length of 4405 km have been completed and opened to traffic during the said period. The length of 2194 km is at various stages of implementation including construction & bidding. (c) The progress of National Highway projects depends upon timely availability of encumbrance-free land, statutory and forest/environment clearances, utility shifting, law and order issues, contractual matters, availability of construction materials, weather conditions and other unforeseen site-specific factors. Delays, wherever encountered, are attributable to one or more of these factors. The Government and implementing agencies continuously monitor the progress of projects and take appropriate measures forexpeditious execution by taking up the matter with State Government of Karnataka.
