The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has initiated the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) to develop new industrial cities as "Smart Cities" with sustainable infrastructure and plug-and-play infrastructure at the plot level. As of August 5, 2025, the government has approved 20 projects under the NICDP. These projects include industrial areas and integrated manufacturing clusters across various states, including Andhra Pradesh (Krishnapatnam, Kopparthy, and Orvakal), Bihar (IMC Gaya), Gujarat (Dholera Special Investment Region), Haryana (IMC Hisar, Integrated Multimodal Logistics Hub, Nangal Chaudhary), Karnataka (Tumakuru), Kerala (Palakkad), Madhya Pradesh (Integrated Industrial Township, Vikram Udyogpuri), Maharashtra (Shendra Bidkin Industrial Area, Dighi Port Industrial Area), Punjab (IMC Rajpura), Rajasthan (Jodhpur Pali Marwar Industrial Area), Telangana (Zaheerabad Industrial Area), Uttarakhand (IMC Khurpia), and Uttar Pradesh (Integrated Industrial Township, Greater Noida; Multimodal Logistics Hub Mutlimodal Transport Hub, Dadri; IMC Agra; IMC Prayagraj). The total project costs vary, ranging from ₹352 Crore to ₹9800 Crore, with areas spanning from 658 acres to 6,414 acres. Specifically, an Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) at Palakkad in Kerala, as part of the Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) extension, was approved in August 2024 under the NICDP. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Kerala Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited, has been incorporated to implement the Palakkad project. The project cost for the Palakkad Industrial Area is ₹1710 Crore across 3,805 acres.
