Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) the details of funds allocated and released to the National Institute of Technical Teachers
Training and Research (NITTTRs) during the last five years, year-wise and institute-wise;
(b) the details regarding the number of teachers trained by the NITTTRs, year-wise;
(c) whether the Government has conducted any study to assess the requirement of additional
technical teachers training centres and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether the Government plans to establish a new NITTTR centre in Andhra Pradesh and if so,
the details regarding the proposed location, timeline and funds earmarked; and
(e) the measures taken by the Government to enhance the outreach of teacher-training programmes
of these institutes to States which have lower participation?

(a) to (e): The National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTRs) are
autonomous institutions under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, located at
Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai and Kolkata. The details of funds allocated and released to the
National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTRs) during the last five
years are attached at Table-1 of Annexure and the year-wise details of number of teachers trained
by 4 NITTTRs are attached at Table-II of Annexure.
The NITTTRs also operate extension centres to expand their outreach for teachers training,
curriculum development and related academic support. At present, NITTTR Bhopal has fourextension centres located at Pune (Maharashtra), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Alto Porvorim (Goa) and
Raipur (Chhattisgarh). NITTTR Chennai operates extension centres at Bengaluru (Karnataka),
Hyderabad (Telangana), Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) and Kalamassery (Kerala). NITTTR
Kolkata has extension centres at Bhubaneswar (Odisha) and Guwahati (Assam). The NITTTR
Chennai Extension Centre at Vijayawada, established in 2016, is presently functioning from the
premises of the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Mangalagiri, Guntur District,
Andhra Pradesh.
The Government has taken various measures to enhance the outreach of teachers training
programme through multiple measures aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to
strengthen technical education nationwide. These include digital expansion through online self-
paced Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), delivered through Study Webs of Active Learning
for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM), National Initiative for Technical Teachers Training
(NITTT), National Resource Centre (NRC) and the Learning Management System “e-
Prashikshan”. Inclusive access is being promoted through collaborations with State Technical
Universities, polytechnics, engineering colleges and other higher education institutions to conduct
need-based programmes, capacity-building initiatives, and development of training modules in
Hindi and other Indian languages. Institutional strengthening measures include grant of “Deemed
to be University” status to NITTTRs under the distinct category, organization of need-based
Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), regional collaboration to identify training gaps in low-
participation States, and awareness generation through circulation of course information, use of
social media and designing of need-based sector-specific training programmes aligned with local
industry.
