GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.*334 TO BE ANSWERED ON 16.03.2026 NATIONAL MISSION ON LIBRARIES SCHEME IN CHITRADURGA *334 SHRI GOVIND MAKTHAPA KARJOL: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: a) the details of implementation of National Mission on Libraries Scheme in Chitradurga district of Karnataka since its inception; b) the details of the number of libraries identified, approved and modernized under the said Scheme in the said district; c) the details of the funds allocated, sanctioned and utilized for the said district under the said Scheme during the last five years and the current year, year wise; d) the details of the facilities created including digitization, infrastructure upgradation, provision of books, internet and other modern amenities in the libraries under the said Scheme; and e) the details of the steps taken/being taken by the Government to further strengthen and expand library services in Chitradurga district under the said Scheme? ANSWER MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (e) A statement is laid on the table of the House.STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.*334 FOR REPLY 16.03.2026 REGARDING “NATIONAL MISSION ON LIBRARIES SCHEME IN CHITRADURGA” ASKED BY SHRI GOVIND MAKTHAPPA KARJOL, HON’BLE MP. (a) to (e) The Ministry of Culture through National Mission on Libraries (NML) Scheme, under its ‘Setting up of NML Model Library’ component, provides financial assistance to one State Central Library and one District Library in each State /UT on the recommendation of the State Authorities concerned and 6 Libraries identified by Ministry of Culture. The financial assistance is provided for i) Up-gradation of Infrastructure, ii) Modernization of Technology & Modernization of Services, iii) Creation of Facilities for Specially-abled users and iv) Subscription of E-journals/E-books for selected Libraries under NML, v) Network Connectivity for District Libraries, vi) Procurement of Reading resources and Advocacy & Outreach programs etc. The detail of the funds released in the NML Scheme during last three years for these components is given at Annexure A. The State Central Library, Bangalore and District Central Library, Shimoga have already been funded in Karnataka State under the NML Scheme.
