GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF SCHOOL EDUCATION & LITERACY RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1301 ANSWERED ON 11.02.2026 Navodaya Vidyalayas in Andhra Pradesh 1301 Shri Masthan Rao Yadav Beedha: Will the Minister of Education be pleased to state: (a) the number of Navodaya Vidyalayas sanctioned and functional in Andhra Pradesh in the last five years; (b) the total number of students currently enrolled in Navodaya Vidyalayas across Andhra Pradesh, district-wise; (c) the details of student-teacher ratio in each Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) of Andhra Pradesh; and (d) the measures taken to ensure quality of education and extracurricular development in Navodaya schools? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY) (a) to (c): As per information received from Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), at present, total 15 Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) are sanctioned and functional in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The district-wise and year-wise details of the NVs sanctioned and district-wise enrolment as well as student–teacher ratio in the NVs in the State of Andhra Pradesh as on 31.12.2025 are annexed. (d): NVS provides one of the finest quality modern education with a strong component of inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities, physical education etc. NVS ensures quality education through CBSE-curriculum, qualified teaching faculty, continuous academic monitoring, and integration of digital learning tools. The excellence in academics is reflected through consistent best results in institution wise CBSE board examination of Class X and XII. Performance of NVs in all the parameters of PARAKH 2025 is above the national benchmark. In pursuance of NEP 2020, NVS has implemented experiential and joyful learning pedagogies in classroom teaching by training teachers in all NVs. Most of the NVs have been made part of the PM SHRI - NEP Exemplar Schools. All NVs are well equipped with reliable internet connectivity and digital equipment such as Computer/Tablets/Laptops for implementing ICT based education in NVs.For hands on and experiential learning all NVs have implemented bag-less days for class VI-VIII and exposure visits to places of historical, cultural and educational importance including higher education institutes and reputed labs are being organized for all students in NVs. All NVs at permanent site have fully functional laboratories (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Junior Science Labs, Maths Labs). Atal Tinkering Labs are established/sanctioned in all NVs under PM SHRI Scheme Holistic development of students is strengthened through co-curricular and extracurricular programmes including sports, arts, clubs, leadership activities, and national integration initiatives such as the Migration Scheme. Physical Education & Sports is an integral part in life of students in NVs which aims at giving students an opportunity for self-development and creative expression through games & sports and to groom them as competent and self-confident individuals. Details of the facilities for Physical Education and Sports in NVs as are under: • Engagement of PET (Physical Education Teacher) male and PET female in each NV. • 1.5-2 Hours per day for Physical Fitness/ Sports games activities (in addition to theory classes)- Morning Physical Training for 45 minutes and Evening Games Period of one hour is provided in all NVs. • Fitness Assessment of every child twice in a Year. • Basic Sports Infrastructure like 400/200 Meter Track, Basket Ball, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Handball, Kabaddi, Hockey / Football Grounds, Multi Gym etc. in all NVs at Permanent Site. • Sports Equipment Fund - Rs 200 per student/year. • Under PM SHRI scheme 02 sports coaches are engaged in all PM SHRI NVs apart from the provision of regular TGT (Physical Education) in all NVs. NVs also create opportunities for self-development and creative expression for their students as under: • Provision of Art and Music Teachers in all schools. • Allotment of regular periods for Art & Music in school time-table • Competitions at school, cluster and National Levels. • Under PM SHRI scheme, 01 Dance & 01 Music experts are engaged in NVs to promote holistic development of students and awareness of art and culture. • Students are also given opportunities to meet local craftsman/artisans. • NVs also constitute topic centered and project based clubs such as Eco Club for Mission LiFE, Fine art, Performing art, Literary, Science, Maths, Civic, Astronomy club etc. with active participation of all students in club activities.
