(b) The Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of the National Critical Mineral
Mission (NCMM) on 29 January 2025. The Mission aims to secure a long-term,
sustainable supply of critical minerals and strengthen India’s critical mineral value
chains across all stages from mineral exploration and mining to beneficiation,
processing, and recovery from end-of-life products. This multi-pronged approach is
part of a comprehensive strategy to achieve self-reliance in the critical minerals sector,
which is essential for India's strategic sectors including country’s transition to a
sustainable and resilient energy economy.
