Parliament Question: Operationalization of PNG and CNG in Odisha

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO - 3493 ANSWERED ON - 23/03/2026 OPERATIONALIZATION OF PNG AND CNG IN ODISHA 3493 SHRI SUBHASISH KHUNTIA: Will the Minister of PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS be pleased to state: (a) whether domestic PNG connections have been released in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri since commissioning of the pipeline and if so, the number thereof; (b) whether CNG stations are operational in these cities and if so, the number thereof; (c) whether targets were fixed for PNG connections and the achievement against such targets; and (d) whether any delay has occurred in consumer-level rollout despite pipeline commissioning and the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS (SHRI SURESH GOPI) (a) to (d) Providing Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections, establishment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations and laying of pipeline infrastructure is part of the development of City Gas Distribution (CGD) Network, which is carried out by the entities authorized by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) as per their Minimum Work Programme (MWP) in their respective Geographical Areas (GAs). Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri fall under Cuttack District GA, Khordha District GA and Ganjam, Nayagarh & Puri Districts GA respectively. These GAs have been authorized by PNGRB to GAIL Gas Limited for development of CGD network.
