Presently, about 120 originating Mail/Express trains and about 3,200 suburban trains are handled daily in the Mumbai area. To increase train-handling capacity at various stations in the Mumbai area, the following works have been completed, taken up, or planned at different station. The process for procurement of these rakes has been taken up.The numbers of fatalities reported in Railways are published state-wise by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in their publication Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India (ADSI). However, the number of fatalities in Mumbai-Suburban is not published separately.Safety is accorded the highest priority on Indian Railways. As a consequence of various safety measures taken over the years, there has been a steep decline in the number of accidents.
