Will the Minister of CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND PUBLIC
DISTRIBUTION be pleased to state:
(a): the details of the quantity of paddy procured since 2014, State-wise, especially
from Tamil Nadu;
(b): the details and the quantity of paddy were procured in the Mayiladuthurai, Lok
Sabha constituency since 2014;
(c): whether the moisture content of paddy procured in the Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha
constituency and other Cauvery Delta districts be increased in view of excess and
continued monsoon activity; and
(d): if so, the details thereon

(a): The details of the quantity of paddy procured since 2014, State-wise including Tamil Nadu
is annexed at Annexure – I.
(b): The details of the quantity of paddy procured since 2014 in Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha
constituency is annexed at Annexure - II.
(c) & (d): The request of the State Government of Tamil Nadu for raising the permissible moisture
content for paddy procurement from 17% to 22% has not been considered due to following facts:1. Paddy can be dried before milling, procurement of excessively moist paddy introduces
significant operational risk, including loss of stock during storage and compromised milling
recovery.
11. Paddy with high moisture content is susceptible to rapid deterioration, fungal growth,
discoloration, and infestation
111. The State Governments have been advised time and again to endeavor to develop the driage
facility at procuring stages.
I V. The relaxation in moisture content has no direct financial implication on farmers, therefore,
such relaxation is no longer considered.
