Dr. D. PURANDESWARI: Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has reviewed the disbursement of financial assistance under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons during 2025-26 in Andhra Pradesh; (b) if so, the details thereof, including the number of outstanding sportspersons living in indigent circumstances who have received pensions or lump-sum grants; (c) the details of total financial assistance disbursed for medical treatment or to the families of deceased athletes from Andhra Pradesh during the last one year and the current year; (d) whether the Government has noted a lack of awareness regarding the application process among veteran sportspersons residing in the State; and (e) the details of steps taken/being taken by the Government to simplify the documentation required and expedite the approval of distress claims originating from Andhra Pradesh? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS [DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA] (a) To (e) : Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program for Sportspersons intends to provide financial assistance to sportsperson injured during training, for medical treatment, for Page 1 of 2training, for procuring equipment and for participation in sports events; to retired sportspersons living in indigent circumstances; to family members of deceased sportspersons living in indigent circumstances; to Coaches for medical treatment; and to Coaches and supporting sports professionals living in indigent circumstances. The financial assistance ranges from ₹2 lakhs to ₹10 lakhs. The scheme is explicitly demand driven and all the applications after due verification are placed before competent authority for consideration. The state-wise details of the financial assistance given/sanctioned to the sportspersons till 2025-26 under the scheme of “Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program for Sportspersons”, is available on the Ministry’s website at https://yas.gov.in/sites/default/files/PDUNWFS%20list.pdf. During the current year 2026-27, no financial assistance has been disbursed for medical treatment or to the families of deceased athletes from the Andhra Pradesh. The details of aforementioned scheme are also available on this Ministry’s website at https://yas.nic.in/ .The Government has adopted a series of measures to simplify the procedure and ensure timely and transparent disbursal of financial assistance under the Pandit Deendayal National Welfare Program for Sportspersons such as the implementation of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism for disbursement and dedicated online portal (https://dbtyas- sports.gov.in) to digitize the process of inviting applications, thus ensuring the timely and efficient disbursement of financial assistance to beneficiaries. Under this system, financial assistance is directly transferred into the bank accounts of the beneficiary thereby eliminating delays, reduces administrative bottlenecks, and ensures that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries in a timely and efficient manner. ***** Page 2 of 2
