Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government celebrated Parakram Diwas, 2026 to commemorate the birth
anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose recently and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the details of programmes, events and activities organised during the said event;
(c) the aims and objectives of celebrating Parakram Diwas and its role in promoting patriotism
and awareness about the life and contributions of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose among the
youth; and
(d) the total expenditure incurred on the celebrations of the said event?

(a) Yes. The Government of India celebrated Parakram Diwas, 2026 from 23rd January 2026 to
25th January 2026 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The main event was organised at Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and similar
commemorative events were held at thirteen other locations across the country closely
associated with the life of Netaji, namely Cuttack (Odisha); Kolkata, Kodalia and
Murshidabad (West Bengal); Meerut (Uttar Pradesh); Kohima (Nagaland); Gomoh and
Ramgarh (Jharkhand); Delhi; Dalhousie (Himachal Pradesh); Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh);
Moirang (Manipur); and Haripura (Gujarat). The programmes were conducted with the
active participation of State Governments, UT Administration of Andaman
& Nicobar Islands, educational institutions and cultural organisations.
(b) During the celebrations; commemorative ceremonies were organised at Sri Vijaya Puram
and 13 other locations associated with Netaji. Cultural performances and exhibitions
highlighting life and legacy of Netaji were held. Book and scroll painting exhibitions,seminars, lectures, panel discussions and youth interaction programmes in collaboration
with academic and research institutions were organised.
(c) The celebration of Parakram Diwas aims to honour and commemorate the unparalleled
contribution of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to India’s freedom struggle. It seeks to instil a
sense of patriotism, courage, leadership and self-reliance among citizens, particularly the
youth. The observance also promotes awareness about the history and role of the Indian
National Army in the independence movement and encourages academic research as well as
informed public discourse on Netaji’s ideology and vision for a strong and self-reliant India.
Through these initiatives, the celebration contributes to strengthening national pride and
inspiring younger generations.
(d) The estimated budget for celebration of Parakram Diwas is ₹7 crores (approximately).
