Parliament Question: Pending/Refusal to GI tag applications from West Bengal

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY DEPARTMENT FOR PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND INTERNAL TRADE RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1636 TO BE ANSWERED ON FRIDAY, THE 13TH FEBRUARY, 2026 PENDING/REFUSAL TO GI TAG APPLICATIONS FROM WEST BENGAL 1636. SHRI SAMIRUL ISLAM: Will the Minister of Commerce and Industry be pleased to state: (a) the details of Geographical Indication (GI) tag applications filed from West Bengal that are pending before the Geographical Indications Registry; (b) the details of the GI tag applications filed from West Bengal that have been refused since 2021, year-wise and application-wise; and (c) the reasons for the refusal of GI tags for these applications, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MIN ISTRY OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY (SHRI JITIN PRASADA) (a): As per the records available with the Department, a total of 46 applications filedfrom West Bengal are currently pending at Geographical Indications Registry (GIR). The detailed list of these applications with reason for pendency is provided in Annexure-A.
