Will the Minister of JAL SHAKTI be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that thousands of farmers and around forty-six thousand bighas of agricultural land have been affected by irrigation crisis due to the drying up of the Pili Dam reservoir in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has conducted any technical study on the causes of this situation such as lack of rainfall, climate change, siltation, water management or any other reasons and if so, the major findings thereof;
(c) the permanent measures proposed by the Government with regard to reservoir recharge, de-silting, rainwater harvesting, alternative irrigation sources and water conservation to prevent recurrence of such a situation in future; and
(d) the immediate and long-term steps being taken by the Government to provide time-bound irrigation facilities to the affected farmers? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR JAL SHAKTI (SHRI RAJ BHUSHAN CHOUDHARY) 1(a) Water, being State subject, water resources projects are planned, funded, executed and maintained by the State Governments themselves as per their own resources and priority.
Government of Uttar Pradesh has informed that the area irrigated during year 2025-26 under the canal system of Pili dam reservoir has remained consistent with the irrigation provided through the system during the previous years, indicating that there has been no reduction in irrigation from the Pili Reservoir.
Jatpura Canal System originating from Pili Dam reservoir has irrigation potential of about 1200 hectare, each in kharif and Rabi seasons. Irrigation
provided through this system during last three years are given below.

At present, 5.49 million cubic metres of water is available in the Pili Reservoir for irrigation.
(b) to (d): In the light of above, questions do not arise. ***** 2
