GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF SCHOOL EDUCATION AND LITERACY RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO - 1306 ANSWERED ON – 11/02/2026 PM SHRI scheme in Kushinagar 1306 Shri Ratanjit Pratap Narain Singh: Will the Minister of Education be pleased to state: (a) the details of the schools selected under the PM-SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme in the Kushinagar district; (b) the status of the infrastructure upgradation and smart classroom installation in these schools as of January, 2026; (c) the measures taken to introduce vocational skill training in these schools aligning with the local economy (tourism, agriculture); (d) the details of the funds released for the development of green school campuses in the district; and (e) Government's plan to make these schools model centres for the implementation of NEP, 2020? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY) (a): Under the PM SHRI scheme, a total of 31 PM SHRI schools have been selected from the Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh out of which 7 are primary and 24 are elementary. The details of PM SHRI schools may be accessed on the website of PM SHRI scheme at the link: https://pmshri.education.gov.in/state. (b): Under PM SHRI scheme, PM SHRI schools including in Kushinagar district are saturated with components such as Building as Learning Aid (BaLa) feature and jaadui pitara, support at pre-school education, child friendly furniture, outdoor play materials etc. in primary and elementary schools and furniture, fully equipped integrated science lab/physics lab/chemistry lab/ biology lab, smart classrooms, computer lab/ ICT Lab, skill lab, playground with well- equipped sports facilities etc. for secondary and senior secondary schools. The current status of infrastructure upgradation as of January 2026, including smart classrooms, in the district of Kushinagar under PM SHRI scheme, as informed by the State of Uttar Pradesh, is attached as Annexure.Further, the State of Uttar Pradesh has informed that, out of 24 elementary schools in Kushinagar district, smart classrooms have been approved for all 24 schools, and installations have been completed in 20 schools. (c): Out of 31 PM SHRI schools in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh, 7 are primary and 24 are elementary. PM SHRI scheme has a provision for exposure of pre-vocational education at elementary level focussing mainly on activity-based teaching-learning under vocational skill. Further, as informed by State of Uttar Pradesh, Government of Uttar Pradesh has introduced the Learning by Doing programme in Kushinagar district with objective of imparting the foundational vocational skills and basic technological exposure to students of Classes VI to VIII. The programme focuses on experiential learning across four key thematic areas, namely Workshop & Engineering, Energy & Environment, Agriculture, Gardening & Nursery, and Home and Health Care. Since the academic year 2024–25, the Learning by Doing programme is being implemented in 10 PM-SHRI schools. During 2025–26, the programme is under expansion in 6 additional PM SHRI schools. (d): PM SHRI scheme aims to develop PM SHRI schools as green schools by incorporating environment friendly aspects such as rainwater harvesting, energy efficient using solar panels and LED lightings, nutrition gardens with natural farming, waste management, plastic-free, water conservation and harvesting, study of traditions/practises related to protection of environment and awareness generation to incorporate an organic lifestyle. These interventions aim to create a sustainable and eco-friendly learning environment in schools across the nation. As informed by State of Uttar Pradesh, 26.31 lakhs have been allocated for development of green school components in 31 PM SHRI schools of Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh in FY 2024-25 and FY 2025-26. (e): In alignment with the National Education Policy, 2020, PM SHRI scheme has a provision to saturate PM SHRI schools across the country with 21 NEP components such as computer lab/ICT lab/smart classrooms, library with good furniture, internet facility, vocational skill education, guidance and career counselling, fully equipped integrated science lab/physics lab/chemistry lab/biology lab, playground with well-equipped sports facilities, school innovation council, youth and eco club for mission life, BaLa features and jaadui pitara for primary school children, 10 bagless days for students, child tracking software for tracking the children attendance, fully functioning handwashing facility and toilets, green school features etc. So far, PM SHRI schools have achieved 91% saturation under above mentioned components.
