Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that all the waste collected under the Swachh Bharat
Mission – Urban (SBM-U) has not been processed;
(b) if so, the total quantum of garbage collected and quantum out of it being
processed in Chandrapur city every year; and
(c) whether the Government has provided funds for processing of this waste
and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c) : Government of India launched the Swachh Bharat Mission-
Urban (SBM-U) on October 2, 2014 with the objective of Open Defecation
Free (ODF) cities and for scientific processing of Municipal Solid Waste
(MSW) generated in all urban areas of the country including cities in West
Bengal. To carry forward the progress made, Swachh Bharat Mission
(SBM-U) 2.0 has been launched on October 1, 2021 for a period of five
years with a vision of achieving Garbage Free Status for all cities through
100% source segregation, door to door collection and scientific
management of all fractions of waste.
Under SBM-U 2.0, financial assistance is provided to all States/UTs
to attain 100% scientific processing of municipal solid waste for setting
up waste processing facilities such as Waste-to-Compost (WtC) plants,
Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plants, Material Recovery Facility (MRF),
Construction & Demolition (C&D) Waste processing plants, bio-
methanation plants, transfer stations, Sanitary scientific landfills &
remediation of legacy dumpsites municipal waste etc.

As reported by the States/UTs, 100% door to door collection is
practiced in 98% of the wards i.e. 94,541 wards out of the total 96,222
wards and source segregation is being practiced in 91% of the wards i.e.
87,485 wards out of total 96,222 wards. Further, the scientific processing
of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in the country has increased from 16% in
2014 to 80.07% i.e. Out of 1,61,445 ton per day (TPD) waste generated, a
total of 1,29,263 TPD of waste is being processed. City-wise details of
