Parliament Question: Progress of National Gas Grid

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO - 4115 ANSWERED ON - 30/03/2026 PROGRESS OF NATIONAL GAS GRID 4115 SHRI MANAS RANJAN MANGARAJ: Will the Minister of PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS be pleased to state: (a) the current length of the National Gas Grid operational in the country; (b) the States/UTs yet to be connected with the gas grid; and (c) the steps being taken to achieve complete national coverage and the expected timeline for completion? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS (SHRI SURESH GOPI) (a) to (c) The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) is the authority responsible for authorizing entities to lay, build, operate and expand Natural Gas Pipelines (NGPL) in the country. As on December, 2025, about 27,427 Km of NGPL network, comprising common carrier pipelines, spur lines, tie-in connectivity and dedicated pipelines, has been made operational. At present, all States and Union Territories, except Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep, are covered under the Natural Gas Pipeline Network authorized by PNGRB. In order to expedite the construction of National Gas Grid, Government continually reviews and coordinates with the concerned State Governments and executing agencies to resolve the challenges such as securing Right of Use (RoU) in land, obtaining forest and environmental permissions, obtaining approvals for crossings such as Rivers, Canals, Railways, National Highways, etc. ****
