PROGRESS OF NHs PROJECTS IN SEEMANCHAL REGION

be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware of the fact that increasing
traffic, incomplete upgradation works and inadequate road capacity
at several locations on National Highways (NHs) passing through
the Seemanchal region of Bihar, particularly Katihar, Purnea,
Kishanganj and Araria are causing difficulties in commuting, trade
and transportation of agricultural produce and if so, the details
thereof;
(b) the current status, sanctioned cost, expenditure incurred so far,
physical progress and probable completion dates of sanctioned
projects relating to widening bypasses, Railway Over Bridges
(ROBs) and the road safety measures on National Highways in the
Seemanchal region, project-wise; and
(c) whether the Government is considering prioritizing the
strengthening of National Highway infrastructure and introducing
new projects, keeping in view the developmental needs of the
Seemanchal region and its strategic importance as the gateway to
the North-Eastern States and if so, the details thereof?ANSWER

(a) to (c) Development and Maintenance of National Highways
(NH) is a continuous process. Government in Ministry of Road
Transport & Highways is primarily responsible for development and
Maintenance of NHs in the country including Seemanchal
(comprising of Katihar, Purnea, Kishanganj and Araria districts)
region of Bihar and based on the traffic density,
connectivity/logistic requirements and synergy with PM Gati Shakti
National Master Plan, NH development in the Seemanchal region of
Bihar has been taken up. The total length of NH in Seemanchal
Region of Bihar is 745 km out of which 408 Km length has already
been developed, 84 Km length is under ongoing development and
253 km length is yet to be taken up projects in pipeline. The details
of works and projects in pipe-line are annexed.Annexure
