**Summary:**
As of August 7, 2025, India's installed nuclear power capacity consists of 24 reactors with a total capacity of 8780 MW, excluding the RAPS1 reactor (100 MW) which is under long-term shutdown. Four reactors are currently undergoing refurbishment and upgrades: Tarapur Atomic Power Station Units 1&2 (2 x 160 MW), Madras Atomic Power Station Unit 1 (1 x 220 MW), and Kaiga Atomic Power Station Unit 1 (1 x 220 MW). The remaining 20 reactors are operational.
Several nuclear power projects are under construction across India. These include Rawatbhata RAPP8 (1 x 700 MW) in Rajasthan; Kudankulam KKNPP3&4 (2 x 1000 MW) and KKNPP5&6 (2 x 1000 MW) in Tamil Nadu; the Kalpakkam PFBR (1 x 500 MW); and Gorakhpur GHAVP1&2 (2 x 700 MW) in Haryana.
Pre-project activities are underway for additional reactors, including Kaiga5&6 (2 x 700 MW) in Karnataka; Gorakhpur GHAVP3&4 (2 x 700 MW) in Haryana; Chutka1&2 (2 x 700 MW) in Madhya Pradesh; and Mahi Banswara1&2 and 3&4 (2 x 700 MW each) in both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The Kalpakkam PFBR project is implemented by BHAVINI, while other projects are assigned to Anushakti Vidyut Nigam Limited (ASHVINI). Upon completion of these projects, India's installed nuclear power capacity is projected to reach 22380 MW.

Presently, the installed nuclear power capacity in the country comprises of 24 reactors with a total capacity
of 8780 MW, excluding RAPS-1 (100 MW), which is under long term shut down. Among these 24
reactors 4 nos. of reactors i.e. Tarapur Atomic Power Station Units 1&2 (2 x 160 MW), Madras Atomic
Power Station Unit-1 (1x220 MW) and Kaiga Atomic Power Station Unit-1 (1x220 MW) are presently in
project mode for carrying out refurbishment & upgradation activities and remaining 20 reactors are
operational.
