be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has any promoted scheme for Intensive Aquaculture of Ponds
and Tanks in Karnataka under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), if so,
the details thereof;
(b) the funds disbursed by the Government under the scheme during the last three years;
(c) whether the Government is aware that there is need to increase the budget for
supporting the aquaculture farmers in Karnataka; and
(d) the measures taken by the Government to provide more financial support to the
aquaculture farmers, who are doing aquaculture farming in ponds and tanks in Karnataka?

(a) & (b): The Department of Fisheries, Government of India (DoF, GoI) under the
flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) being currently
implemented envisages promotion of intensive aquaculture system also including ponds
and tanks. During last five years, DoF, GoI has approved fisheries developmental projects
of Government of Karnataka amounting to Rs.1058.98 crore. The approved activities
inter-alia included interventions promoting intensive aquaculture like construction of new
Freshwater/brackishwater and marine hatcheries (19 units), area expansion through
ponds and tanks under aquaculture (2205 hectare,), area expansion through biofloc ponds
in fresh and brackishwater (351.4 hectare), stocking of fingerlings in reservoirs (346.27
hectare), reservoir cages (700 units), ornamental fish rearing and breeding units (79 units),
culture through Re-circulatory Aquaculture systems (713 units), Matsya Seva Kendras
extension services to facilitate fisheries including fish farming (7 units). The details of funds
disbursed by the DoF, GoI to Government of Karnataka under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya
Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) during the last three years are as below:

fisheries in all States and Union Territories including Karnataka, and it gives high priority
towards development of aquaculture with sufficient budgetary provisions. The projects
under PMMSY are approved based on the consolidated proposals submitted by the
respective State Governments. In addition, in order to strengthen the institutional credit in
fisheries sector, the facilities of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) has been extended to fishers
and fish farmers including aquaculture farming in ponds and tanks to help them to meet
their working capital requirements. Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development
Fund (FIDF) has also been created enabling concessional financing to fishers,
aquaculture farmers for various activities including aquaculture farming.
