DELKAR KALABEN MOHANBHAI: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) the details of the various measures initiated or likely to be initiated by the Government to promote and develop tourism within Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu; (b) the details of the measures taken by the Government, so far, particularly in the district Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar; (c) whether the Government proposes or formulated any special schemes for the development of tourism at sites of archaeological importance in Maharashtra, particularly in the said district, States and Union Territories; and (d) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (d): Development and promotion of tourism destinations in the country is primarily done by the concerned State Government (SG)/UT Administration (UTA). However, Ministry of Tourism under its various schemes such as Swadesh Darshan (SD), Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0); Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD), an initiative under Swadesh Darshan; Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) etc. provides financial assistance for development of tourism infrastructure and experiences in the country to the SGs/UTAs including atdestinations of archaeological importance on receipt of the project proposals from them, in synergy with the scheme guidelines, Government directions, availability of funds, inter-se priority etc. There is no proposal before the Ministry of Tourism to formulate any special scheme for development of sites of archaeological importance. However, the Ministry of Tourism under its scheme of ‘Assistance to Central Agencies’ for tourism infrastructure development provides financial assistance central agencies for development of tourism related projects. In addition, Government of India has also sanctioned projects under initiative for ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI)- Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale’.
