GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF TOURISM LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.2347 ANSWERED ON 15.12.2025 PROMOTION OF ECO AND HILL TOURISM UNDER SDS/SDS 2.0 IN TAMIL NADU 2347. SHRI ESWARASAMY K: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has any plans for the development of eco and hill tourism destinations such as Valparai and the Anamalai region under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme (SDS) or Swadesh Darshan Scheme (SDS 2.0) scheme; (b) if so, the details thereof, including the project components, amount sanctioned and current implementation status; (c) whether the Government has undertaken any survey to identify potential destinations for sustainable tourism development in Tamil Nadu; (d) the details of the destinations selected under the scheme during the last five years, year and State-wise; and (e) the details of the measures proposed to integrate such destinations with broader national circuits to enhance employment and local entrepreneurship? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (e): Identification, development and promotion of various tourist destinations including those in eco and hill tourism areas is primarily undertaken by the concerned State Government (SG)/ Union Territory Administration (UTA). However, in order to complement these efforts of tourism infrastructure development and experiences, the Ministry of Tourismlaunched its Swadesh Darshan scheme (SDS) in 2014-15 under identified thematic circuits including Eco-circuit and Himalayan circuit. Accordingly, under SDS, a total of 76 projects were sanctioned in the country including Tamil Nadu, out of which 75 projects are reported as physically complete. Further, the scheme was revamped as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) with the idea to develop sustainable and responsible tourism destinations and the Ministry has sanction 53 projects under the said scheme. The Ministry has also sanctioned 36 projects under ‘Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD), a sub-scheme of Swadesh Darshan 2.0. The projects sanctioned under SD2.0 and CBDD are implemented by the concerned State Government/UT Administration. The Ministry of Tourism has not undertaken any survey to identify potential destinations for sustainable tourism development in Tamil Nadu. However, various aspects of sustainability and community engagement are embedded in the guidelines of Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and CBDD scheme. In addition, the Ministry of Tourism has also formulated ‘National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism’. The details of the projects sanctioned under Swadesh Darshan, SD2.0 and CBDD is annexed. *****ANNEXURE STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.2347 ANSWERED ON 15.12. 2025 REGARDING PROMOTION OF ECO AND HILL TOURISM UNDER SDS/SDS 2.0 IN TAMIL NADU RAISED BY SHRI ESWARASAMY K The list of the projects sanctioned under Swadesh Darshan scheme S.
