Promotion of Fisheries in Less Water Resources Areas
2632. Shri Murari Lal Meena:
Will the Minister of FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that fisheries can be expanded at the local level
despite the limited possibilities in State like Rajasthan which has less water resource;
(b) whether the Government has carried out any detailed assessment or study on how
fisheries can be promoted in areas with less water resources;
(c) whether any special scheme has been prepared by the Government for Rajasthan in
this regard under which efforts are being made to promote fisheries through ponds, dams or
other water sources in Lok Sabha Constituency Dausa also; and
(d) the names of the districts in Rajasthan where these schemes have been implemented
so far for promoting fisheries along with the amount of financial assistance and technical
support provided for the same including Lok Sabha Constituency Dausa?

(a) :The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying during
the last five years (2020-21 to 2024-25) has accorded approvals to the fisheries developmental
proposals of Government of Rajasthan at a total cost of Rs. 66.12 crore with central share of
Rs. 22.22 crore for development of fisheries infrastructure, development of fisheries and
aquaculture in the State under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana(PMMSY). The
State of Rajasthan has a significant number of reservoirs, irrigation dams, and rural ponds,
offering potential for fish production through scientific management and the adoption of new
technologies. The key initiatives taken up and implemented by the Department of Fisheries,
Government of Rajasthan for development of fisheries and aquaculture with minimal water and
land resources include (i) establishment of new fin fish hatcheries, (ii) establishment of Bio floc
units, (iii) establishment of Re-circulatory Aquaculture System units, (iv) establishment of
Ornamental fish units, (v) Construction of new ponds and (vii) Reservoir cages.
(b) : Government of Rajasthan informed that they have prepared an action plan in consultation
with ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai and ICAR-Central Institute of
Brackishwater Aquaculture for promotion of fisheries and aquaculture development including
saline aquaculture in the state.
(c) and (d): The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) implemented in the State
including the Dausa Lok Sabha Constituency, inter-alia, envisages to address critical gaps in
fish production, productivity, quality, technology, post-harvest infrastructure and management,
modernization and strengthening of value chain, reduction of post-harvest losses, etc.
Government of Rajasthan informed that during the last 5 years, as per the proposals received
from the private sector, approvals have been issued to 04 fish farmers for construction
offisheries pond on 3.50 hectare and approval has been issued to 03 fish farmers for setting up
cage culture project in Bandh Morel, District Dausa.
