Parliament Question: Promotion of International Yoga Day

Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state:

(a) the funds allocated, released and utilised for the promotion of the International Day of Yoga

(IDY) in India and abroad since 2015, year-wise;

(b) the number of countries where International Day of Yoga events were organised during the last five years, indicating the number of events and estimated participants, country-wise and year-wise;

(c) the expenditure incurred by Indian Missions abroad for organising International Yoga Day celebrations during the said period, country-wise and year-wise;

(d) whether the Government has undertaken any assessment of the impact of International Yoga Day on promoting Yoga, Ayurveda, tourism and India's cultural diplomacy and if so, the details thereof;

(e) the details of the initiatives taken by the Government to promote yoga globally through international collaborations, academic institutions, certification programmes and wellness centres; and

(f) the details of the roadmap for further expanding the global outreach of yoga and other traditional Indian systems of wellness? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYUSH (SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV)

(a) The International Day of Yoga (IDY) is observed through various activities undertaken by the Ministry of Ayush, its autonomous organisations and Indian Missions/Posts abroad. The year-wise expenditure incurred by the Ministry of Ayush and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) for IDY are as under:

(b) & (c) IDY has been celebrated in various countries with the support of Indian Missions/Posts abroad. The number of countries covered during the last five years, as furnished by ICCR, is as under:

(d) No comprehensive assessment specifically evaluating the impact of IDY on promotion of Yoga, Ayurveda, tourism and India's cultural diplomacy has been undertaken.

(e) The Government promotes Yoga globally through international cooperation, academic and research collaborations and development and dissemination of evidence-based Yoga protocols.

MDNIY is a WHO Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine (Yoga) and undertakes activities for promotion of evidence-based Yoga. The Ministry undertakes collaborative research and facilitates the dissemination of standardized, evidence-based Yoga protocols. It also organizes and supports national- international conferences, seminars, workshops and research methodology training programmes for researchers and healthcare professionals. The Yoga Certification Board (YCB), under the Ministry of Ayush, promotes Yoga globally through its internationally accessible Certification and Accreditation Schemes. Under these 2schemes, YCB has accredited Yoga Institutions in 08 countries and certified Yoga Professionals from 95 countries. These initiatives support international collaborations and contribute to the promotion of classical Yoga and wellness across the world.

(f) Promotion of Yoga and other traditional Indian systems of wellness is undertaken through existing international cooperation, institutional collaborations, research and dissemination of evidence-based protocols.
