GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 850 ANSWERED ON 06/02/2026 PROPOSED TARIFFS BY BANGLADESH ON INDIAN COTTON YARN 850. SHRI NARAIN DASS GUPTA Will the Minister of COMMERCE & INDUSTRY be pleased to state: (a) whether Government is aware that Bangladesh is considering imposing 10 to 20 per cent customs duty on cotton yarn imports from India; (b) the value and volume of cotton yarn exports to Bangladesh during the last three years and the extent to which Bangladesh accounts for India’s total cotton yarn exports; (c) whether Government has taken up the matter with Government of Bangladesh through diplomatic or trade channels, given the broader deterioration in bilateral trade relations; and (d) the measures being considered to safeguard Indian farmers and the textile sector, including alternative export markets, trade remedies or policy support? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (SHRI JITIN PRASADA) (a) to (d): No communication in this regard has been received so far from the Government of Bangladesh.
