PROSPECT OF FACING LARGE SURPLUS OF WHEAT AND RICE BY FCI
1964 SHRI P. P. SUNEER:
Will the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution be pleased to
state
(a): whether Government is facing the prospect of large surplus of Wheat and Rice stocks
and it has reflected in the declining prices of these commodities;
(b): if so, the details of the Wheat and Rice buffer stocks with the FCI; and
(c): whether the surplus situation is because of the increase in the supply side and
decreasing demand, the details thereoP

day of every quarter during the year are given below:

Government of India monitors the daily prices of wheat and rice submitted by the 578
price monitoring centres across the country which are under the supervision of the respective
State Civil Supply Departments. The all India daily price report of rice and wheat is given

(c): The procurement policy of Government of India is open-ended and a continuous process.
Surplus stocks are increasing year after year because the procurement exceeds the allocation
under NFS A/ OWS. Procurement of wheat and paddy(in terms of rice) and allocation under
