**Summary: Railway Connectivity to Amaravati**
The Ministry of Railways has undertaken initiatives to improve railway connectivity to Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. A new 57 km railway line, Errupalem-Amaravthi-Nambur, has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹2047 crore and declared a Special Railway Project. Land acquisition is underway, with an allocated outlay of ₹171 crore for the financial year 2025-26.
To further enhance connectivity to Amaravati and the Vijayawada area, the Vijayawada-Gudivada-Narsapur, Gudiwada-Machilipatnam, and Bhimavaram-Nidadavolu doubling project, spanning 221 km, has been commissioned. Additionally, progress has been made on the Vijayawada-Gudur 3rd line (248 km of 287 km completed) and the Kazipet-Vijayawada 3rd line (149 km of 220 km completed).
The budget allocation for infrastructure projects and safety works in Andhra Pradesh for 2025-26 is ₹9417 crore, representing an approximate 11-fold increase compared to the average annual allocation of ₹886 crore during 2009-2014 (including Telangana). Infrastructure project commissioning has also seen an increase, with 1,582 km commissioned between 2014-2025, averaging 143.82 km per year, which is over 4 times the average of 72.6 km per year during 2009-2014 (363 km total).
As of April 1, 2025, there are 39 projects (12 new lines and 27 doubling projects) covering a total length of 4,498 km, costing ₹70,231 crore, in various stages of planning, approval, or construction within Andhra Pradesh. Of these, 1,179 km have been commissioned, with an expenditure of ₹28,039 crore incurred up to March 2025. Specifically, new line projects account for 1,595 km sanctioned, 199 km commissioned, and an expenditure of ₹6413 crore. Doubling projects account for 3904 km sanctioned, 979 km commissioned and expenditure of ₹21626 crore.

(a) whether the Railways has taken the decision to introduce
railway connectivity to the State capital of Amaravati and by
constructing new railway lines to Machilipatnam, Bengaluru,
Chennai, Kolkata, Nagpur and Amaravati;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the quantum of allocations being made to this railway line and
the estimated cost along with the details of the action plan of the

(a) to (c) To provide rail connectivity to Amaravati, the capital of
Andhra Pradesh, Errupalem – Amaravthi – Nambur new line (57 km)
has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹2047 crore. The project has been
declared as Special Railway Project. Land acquisition for the project
has been taken up. An outlay of ₹171 cr. has been provided for
financial year 2025-26.To improve connectivity to Amaravati and Vijayawada area, recently
Vijayawada - Gudivada-Narsapur, Gudiwada - Machilipatnam and
Bhimavaram - Nidadavolu doubling (221 km) has been commissioned.
Moreover, following projects have also been taken up for improving
the connectivity to Amaravati and Vijayawada area.
Vijayawada-Gudur 3rd line – 248 km out of 287 km has been
completed and work on balance 39 km has been taken up.
Kazipet-Vijayawada 3rd line – 149 km out of 220 km has been
completed and work on balance 71 km has been taken up.
