Parliament Question: Recognition of Padiya Meena as a Tribal Revolutionary

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION No. †3702 TO BE ANSWERED ON 16.03.2026 Recognition of Padiya Meena as a Tribal Revolutionary †3702 Shri Murari Lal Meena: Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government proposes to confer Padiya Meena, a prominent tribal leader of the Marwar region, the State recognised a pre-Independence "Tribal Revolutionary"; (b) whether any initiatives has been taken by the Government to include his life, contributions and mass protest movements in the National Archives in construction of memorials or in academic curricula; (c) whether the Government is aware that as per the historical sources and anecdote, Jala Meena laid the foundation of the town of Jalore in Vikram Samvat 900 and whether its available evidence has been examined; and (d) whether the Government has any concrete action plan to survey, conserve and declare the ancient remains located between Kanakgiri and Kanakachan Hill as protected heritage? ANSWER MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) No Sir. Conferring the title of "Tribal Revolutionary" on Padiya Meena, a prominent tribal leader of the Marwar region, does not fall under the mandate of Ministry of Culture. Ministry of Culture, under its Centenaries and Anniversaries Scheme, commemorates birth centenariesand special anniversaries such as the 50th, 75th, 100th, 125th, 150th, and 175th anniversaries of eminent personalities and events of historical importance to the country. (b) No Sir. (c) No Sir. (d) There is no such proposal in Ministry to survey the ancient remains located between Kanakgiri and Kanakachan Hill, also there is no such proposal at present to declare the ancient remains located between Kanakgiri and Kanakachan Hill as protected under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. * * * * *
