Parliament Question: Redevelopment of Hardoi Railway Station under ABSS

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2864 TO BE ANSWERED ON 05.08.2026 REDEVELOPMENT OF HARDOI RAILWAY STATION UNDER ABSS 2864. SHRI JAI PRAKASH: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) whether Hardoi Railway Station has been selected for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) and if so, the details thereof; (b) the details of the sanctioned fund for the said project, along with the major components of the redevelopment works; (c) the details of present physical and financial progress of the said project including the percentage of work completed and the expenditure incurred so far; (d) the details of original and revised timelines fixed for the completion of the said project along with the reasons for delay; (e) whether the Government has modified the earlier original approved redevelopment/design plan of the said project and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and (f) the details of revised project cost, the present status of execution and the expected date of completion? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (f) Ministry of Railways has launched Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for redevelopment of stations with a long-term approach. Hardoi station, located in Uttar Pradesh, has been identified for development under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. At Hardoi station, facilities like platform shelter, waiting hall, drinking water arrangement, § Page 1 of 7urinal, lavatory, seating arrangement, foot over bridge etc. are available. The structural work of new station building, platform raising and surfacing of platform no. 1, 2 & 3 and platform shelter at platform no. 1, 2 & 3 and 4 & 5 have been completed. The finishing work of station building, waiting lounge, toilets, 12 m wide foot over bridge, improvement of circulating area, parking and lift have been taken up. Amrit Bharat Station Scheme involves preparation of master plans and their implementation in phases to improve the stations of Indian Railways. The master planning, keeping in view the necessity of each station, includes: ● Improvement of access to station and circulating areas ● Integration of station with both sides of city ● Improvement of station building ● Improvement of waiting halls, toilets, sitting arrangement, water booths ● Provision of wider foot over bridge/subway to commensurate with passenger traffic ● Provision of lifts/escalators/ramps ● Improvement of platform surface/ provision of platform shelter ● Provision of kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’ ● Parking development ● Amenities for Divyangjans ● Better passenger information systems ● Provision of air concourse, executive lounges, Multimodal integration, landscaping, etc. The scheme also envisages sustainable and environment friendly solutions etc. as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centre at the station in the long term. So far, 1,340 stations have been identified for development under this scheme, out of which 157 stations, including Hardoi station, are located in Uttar Pradesh. The work of 12 m wide foot over bridge has been taken up. Page 5 of 7 Kanpur Central station: The structural works of new station building, commercial building, electrical substation at city side and Cantonment side have been completed. The finishing works of new station building, commercial building, electrical substation at city and Cantonment side, structural work of air concourse, new platform shelters, improvement of platform surface and underground parking have been taken up.  Lucknow (Charbagh) NR station: The structural work of new station building at second entry has been completed. The finishing work of new station building, concourse, 10 m wide foot over bridge, development of circulating area at second entry and improvement of circulating area at main entry have been taken up.  Nagina station: The works of new station building, improvement of platform surface, new platform shelter, improvement of circulating area, parking and new 12 m wide foot over bridge have been completed. The work of installation of lift has been taken up.  Prayagraj Junction station: The structural work of station building at Civil lines side, Railway Mail Service building, parcel building, two arrival blocks, 2 electric substations and improvement of surface parking have been completed. The finishing works of station building, Railway Mail Service building, parcel building and electrical substation, basement parking at city side, air concourse and new platform shelter have been taken up. Further, development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of stations on Indian Railways is a continuous and ongoing process and works in this regard are undertaken as per requirement, feasibility and Page 6 of 7maintainability of various passenger amenities required at stations, as per the category of station/condition/traffic handled. Development / Upgradation / Modernisation of stations including under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is generally funded under Plan Head-53 ‘Customer Amenities’. The details of allocation and expenditure under Plan Head-53 are maintained Zonal Railway-wise and not station-wise or state- wise. Uttar Pradesh is covered under the jurisdiction of five railway zones, namely, East Central Railway, North Central Railway, Northern Railway, North Eastern Railway and West Central Railway. For these zones, an allocation of ₹ 4,118 crore has been made for the financial year 2026-27, out of which an expenditure (up to June, 2026) of ₹ 1,256 crore has been incurred so far. Development / Upgradation of railway stations is a complex in nature involving safety of passengers & trains and requires various statutory clearances such as tree cutting, heritage, fire clearance, airport clearance etc. These stations are in operation since long, so brownfield work challenges are being faced, such as shifting of utilities (involving water/sewage lines, optical fibre cables, gas pipelines, power/signal cables, etc.), infringements, operation of trains without hindering passenger movement, speed restrictions due to works carried out in close proximity of the tracks and near to high voltage power lines, etc. and these factors affect the progress of work and completion time. ***** Page 7 of 7
