This document summarizes Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 11384, addressed to the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment on July 29, 2025, regarding reservation for backward classes in India. The question, posed by Shri Babu Singh Kushwaha, inquires whether the government intends to provide adequate reservation for backward classes based on population data obtained through a caste-based census, potentially abolishing the existing 50% reservation limit to facilitate their upliftment. The Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri B.L. Verma, responded that the Government has notified in the Gazette of India on June 16, 2025, regarding Census 2027, declaring that a census of the population of India shall be taken during the year 2027. The response does not directly address the question of revising reservation policies based on census data.
