Reservation in Mera Yuva Bharat Volunteers
2578. SHRI MANOJ KUMAR:
Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:
(a) the number and percentage of National Volunteers that belongs to SC,
ST, OBC, EWS categories selected under Mera Yuva Bharat erstwhile
Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) districts, State/UTs and category-wise
particularly in Kaimur and Rohtas districts of Sasaram Lok Sabha
Constituency;
(b) whether the Government is aware that due to non-implementation of
reservation policy in the selection process of national volunteer under
Mera Yuva Bharat, the numbers and percentage of SC, ST, OBC
volunteers are very low and if so, whether the Government proposes to
implement reservation policy in the selection process of national
volunteer and if not, the reason therefor; and
(c) whether the Government has any plan to conduct special
drives/advertisement to fill up vacancies reserved for SC, ST, OBC, EWS
categories in the selection process of national volunteer and if so, the
timeline thereof and if not, the reason therefor?

(a) At present, a total of 3,302 MY Bharat Youth volunteers are
deployed under the NYC Scheme. Out of these, 322 belong to ST
category, 572 to SC category, 1,154 to OBC category and 1,254 to
General category. Thus, volunteers belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories
constitute more than 62% of the total volunteers deployed under the
Scheme.

(b) & (c) The reservation policy is not applicable to the MY Bharat Youth
Volunteers under the National Youth Corps Scheme (NYC) as the NYC
Scheme envisages engagement of youths on a voluntary basis for one
year (extendable for one more year) and are paid honorarium for their
volunteering services. Further, endeavour is made to include youth from
all sections of the society.
